My first impression was that Dr. Jose Rodriguez was a caring man. My impression only changed in that I realized just how good he is at what he does, and that the patients come first with him. He brings his own surgical staff with him to Tijuana. His staff was awesome, all spoke good English, and were helpful and willing to answer any and all questions. There was nothing I disliked about Dr. Rod or his staff. He is very serious about the after care and the post op instructions to the patients. Would, and do recommend Dr. Rod to anyone and everyone!

I am doing great after my surgery. I had tried every diet program that came along and never had the success that I have had with this surgery. I weighed this morning and have lost 49 1/2 pounds. I will reach the 50 lb. mark this week :-)

I bought some new clothes a couple of days go and had to buy a size 8 and 10 in some of the pants!!! I haven't worn a size 8 in over 30 years. Before my surgery I was buying 20/22 size clothing.

Initially my goal was 150 pounds, which I will easily reach and most likely surpass. I have not been able to get in as much exercise as I was a few weeks ago, so the weight loss has slowed down a bit.

I no longer take medication for high blood sugar and recent blood tests confirmed that everything is within normal ranges. The surgery was one of the best investments in my health I have ever made.

Dr. Rodriguez and JoAnne's entire staff is terrific. I appreciate the opportunity to tell what wonderful progress I have made.

Sorry we have not done this sooner. The before picture was taken in February 09 at Daytona Beach ….3 months before the surgery. I was weighing 300lbs and Belinda was weighing 233. The after picture was taken May 29th almost exactly one year after the surgery. I now weigh 235 and Belinda weighs 155. A combined weight loss of 143. Mine has all but stopped….i probably could have kept it going but I didn't want to get below 225 so the last 10 lbs will be up to me.

Belinda continues to lose just at a slower rate. We are both very pleased. I no longer am on any diabetes medication. My last A1C was in the low 6's. And I now take only one little 5mg Rampiril for my blood pressure and that is due more to work than weight...ha. We answer everyone that ask and let them all know to GO FOR IT. We truly appreciate everything you helped us with Joanne. And truly, truly appreciate Dr. Rod and Dr.Calderon for making it as affordable as he did. Please give him our sincere thanks also.

I have been very busy at work. Hard to get to exercise to much, but i am still hard at it. I would not have went any other way but this way (the sleeve surgery.) I am thankful to god for allowing me to be able to get the surgery. I have had no pain nor problems at all, I mean not a one!...and thanks to you second of course.

Hi JoAnne, here are a few old and a few new pics!! I am still working on the new me. It is slow, but i walk 3 miles every night and try to eat only chicken and or turkey, but a little other meat slips in every now and then, but only in very small amounts..... like a few bites, and then i am full!! I will try and write you more soon and i hope i hear back from you. Thanks for being out there for us!!

My experience was a thumbs up. I am very pleased with the entire process. Beginning with you and the info and support you have given me. The drivers from Amigo Shuttle were great (really nice). The hospital was VERY clean and organized. The nurse's and staff at the hospital were really nice and very helpful. Although some of them did not speak English, we managed to work out that. They provide us with a sheet of commonly asked questions/comments in English and Spanish. There were a good number of the staff that did speak English, so I had not problems communicating. Everyone was great (the entire staff and the cleaning ladies, and the people that brought the food to us). Dr. Rodriguez is the best doctor I have been treated by in my entire life. He is very caring and speaks good English. I spoke with him prior to surgery, recovery room, and he came to my room the night before I was discharged. Even got a picture with him. His entire surgical staff was great, caring, knowledgeable, and professional. I would definitely recommend him to anyone who wants to get this surgery done. I am VERY pleased and look forward to my recovery and results. You can add my email to the referral list!!

Hi, I'm doing great, thank you for asking. I lost 9 pounds and it has only been a week since surgery. You and the doctor's have been very thorough in my post-op care and diet instructions so I have no questions.

I am very impressed with how easy it was to schedule my surgery, and how smoothly everything has gone. The drivers were prompt and courteous. The medical staff was very knowledgeable, efficient, and showed great concern for my well being. I do not speak any spanish, and still found it relatively easy to communicate with the staff. Some do speak english very well. Dr. Rodriguez was terrific. He made sure to check in before surgery to make sure I was comfortable in my decision and had no questions. The StarMedica facilities were very nice. The private room allowed me to rest comfortably. It was a very nice room with plenty of space. I joked with friends that I was beginning to feel like I was on a vacation. I would be happy to answer anyone's questions via email. It is kind of scary to think of doing any weight loss surgery and then to select something out of the country adds more doubts to your decision. I am grateful for all the information and links that you gave me though, because it erased my doubts. This information was what I needed to select the best possible Dr. and hospital.

Hello, My surgery was on Dec.11, in Cancun. Dr. Frenando Ceron. Everything is going well, just waiting to get my 1st fill. My experience all went very well. From pick up to hospital and all. I would recommend this to anyone!

I am feeling great! I am writing to tell you that my experience at Hospital made me a believer. The first person that I saw was the x-ray people - so nice. Then it was off to get my blood taken. This gal did the most amazing thing that I have ever seen - and you must keep in mind that I am 52 years old. My veins have never been easy to find. I used to give blood all the time and would always leave with bruises. In fact, anytime I get blood taken I always come away looking like a drug user. I didn't get her name (because I was nervous), but she used her one finger to gently prod to find the right vein. She looked at both arms and said something to herself and then looked at me and said "just a minute" and left. I thought she was going to get reinforcements. She came right back with two very small needles. She told me they were pediatric needles and they worked the first time. I do not have a bruise at all where she took blood. I will forever make sure to mention the miracle of pediatric needles before anyone gets near me to take blood again. The nurse that put my I.V. performed the same miracle - small needle - one shot. I was shocked and completely put at ease and we were absolutely handled with the utmost professionalism.

I had my first impression of my surgeon on the phone. He was very nice and answered all my questions about my surgery. Dr. Rodriguez is a little bit shy in person but very nice. I didn't see him much. I was more in contact with Dr.Calderon. I met him in person just before my surgery. He is surrounded by a very competent and professional team, especially Dr. Calderon who is very helpful and knowledgable. I stayed at Star Medica Hospital from saturday to thursday morning and the aftercare was excellent, provided by the hospital staff and Dr.Calderon and Dr.Elmo. I was informed very well about the surgery and provided recommendations for my future diet and suggested vitamins. I am VERY satisfied of my experience, it was well organized and professional from the start till the end. I would recommend Dr.Rodriguez and his team in heartbeat and know what I'm talking about because I'm an RN, I work in the operating room and I'm also specialized in Bariatric surgeries. He also uses the same products for his surgeries as what they use in the Medical Center I work at in the US. I am almost 5 month post-op from my laparoscopic gastric bypass, I had no complications and I have already lost 74lbs. Dr.Calderon gave me an e-mail to contact them and I did. They responded promptly so I'm very happy to have chosen Dr.Rodriguez for my surgery.

I have nothing bad to say about Dr Rod's team and the hospital. Everything was excellent! I had a mini gastric bypass on 01/11/10. I havent had any complications. Dr Calderon responds promptly to any questions I have. I dont understand why people complain about the nurses speaking only spanish...we expect mexicans to speak english over here right? You have to understand that you ARE in mexico. So learn a few phrases before you go. Overall, I would rate this surgeon as a 10.

My husband and I had a pleasant trip and have no complaints. Our driver picked us up at 9:00. He was very friendly and told us a lot of information about areas as we passed by. He told me that I would be treated like a queen--boy was he right. When we arrived at the Hospital everyone was ready and waiting for me.Went through all the tests quickly and was rolled into the ER at 12:30. All the Doctors spoke to me before surgery and made me feel very comfortable. After surgery they came back to give me information and wish me well.I felt so important. Would go back in a heartbeat with no fears. I would gladly talk to others thinking of going to Mexico.

I just wanted to tell you how much I appreciate the encouragement that you gave to me 2 years ago when I called you with so many questions about the lap band surgery. On days when things aren't going well, please remember that you are a part of a truly life altering experience. I now celebrate 3/15 as my birthday. I have been at my goal weight for a few months and I believe that my weight has stabilized. I went from a sz 20 to a sz 6 in less than 2 years. Of course there has been plenty of exercise involved, but there is no way I could have made this kind of progress without the surgery. I put something together for you. My current picture isn't great but I think the message is still obvious - IT WORKS
